Work With The Teacher Collaborative!

OUR WORKSHOP SERIES:

Highly interactive workshops for your teachers

We offer a variety of workshop series to schools, districts, and other partners, each delivered by our cadre of strong, highly-trained facilitator experts.

While we can always tailor our offerings to align with the needs and goals of our partners, we offer four signature programs:

  • This workshop series focuses on teaching the fundamentals of Culturally Responsive Teaching to a group of teachers, who will apply these practices to their own classroom and assess the impact of their piloted innovations. Each teacher will not only gain a fundamental understanding of culturally-responsive practices, but also understand the urgency, meaningfulness and value of equity-driven practices and apply this urgency to their classrooms. Optionally, we can offer a version of this series aimed at more advanced implementation or including two pathways—one for those “new” to the topic and one for those with more significant experience.

  • This workshop series focuses on teaching the fundamentals of Project Based Learning to a group of teachers, who will engage in the design and implementation of project-based lessons and units over the course of the learning series. We will explore not only the basics of effective PBL but also complementary learner-centered instructional shifts, universal design practices to ensure inclusion, and approaches to effective performance-based assessment. Optionally, we can offer a version of this series aimed at more advanced implementation, with a heavier focus on assessment practices.

  • This series focuses on establishing restorative relationships and communities in our classrooms and schools, in support of the wellness and engagement of the “whole child.” Participants will explore how to better establish a community that supports full inclusion, including those with learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. It can be tailored to the audience and the specific needs of a school community but can include an intro to restorative circles, approaches to advisory programs, and strategies for effective relationship-building with and among students.

  • This series provides training for those interested in launching or improving Professional Learning Communities or other collaborative groups intended to support teacher inquiry, action research, or learning in ways that are sustainable, effective, and collegial. This is an ideal fit for new Department Heads, Team Leaders, ILT members, and PLC facilitators; or it can be attended by representatives of the school in a “train the trainer” model.

Each of the series, which can be tailored for in person or online settings, are structured as followed:

  • An initial meeting with a leadership team (composed of the administrator(s) and/or their designees) to plan how to best tailor the learning series to the needs of the school, district, or organizational community

  • For Culturally-Responsive Teaching, Restorative Classrooms, and Project-Based Learning, 6 hours of highly-interactive, hands-on workshops (usually divided into 3 or 4 meetings)

  • For the Facilitator Boot Camp, approximately 12 hours of hands-on meetings, either as full- or half-day in person workshops or as 5-6 sessions over zoom

  • A final meeting for resource sharing and debriefing with the leadership team

Optionally, for any series, we can include add-ons (for additional cost), such as train-the-trainer sessions that include PDPs and microcredentials for teacher leaders; a tailored online Toolkit for the given topic; or coaching check-ins between or following meetings to support implementation.

DELIVERY

We bring a wealth of experience in offering high quality professional learning opportunities that are personalized, relevant to a large number of educators, and collaborative, bringing together diverse groups of educators. As we like to say—this is not your typical PD!

We have found success in grounding our offerings in the following areas:

Connected Community: We establish trusting working relationships with and among participants to enable successful collaboration and the overall deprivatization of teaching and learning.

A Brave Space: We establish a brave learning culture that balances risk with safety, and stimulating growth with sustaining support.

A Vibrant Ecosystem: Our approach to teacher-driven learning fosters creative development and the exploration and refining of innovative ideas.

Cultural Proficiency: We are serious about equity of voice and full inclusion, and our facilitators demonstrate a strong appreciation for the diverse identities, affiliations and experiences that comprise our schools and communities.

In addition to these key conditions, our facilitators are highly trained in a learner-driven approach, which fosters higher engagement and deeper understanding through tailored content, learner agency, and a respect for the assets each educator brings to our programming. Participants leave with both strategies to implement immediately and the resources and foundation to elevate their practice in the long term.
